A downloadable Echo for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android

What is Echo?

Echo is a game and yet not a game, that is, it gives all the features (like an RTP) and brings to life the text adventures created via Adventure Creator (cf. JAM). But what are these text adventures - These are âlla old school games or stories in that similar to a book the story changes through the choices of the player. Well known books that use this for example are: The Lone Wolf or XYZ of 1000 Dangers (XYZ interchange with island/cave etc) and many more books.

Text adventures already clear - what is special about it?

The special thing about Echo is that it is based on pen and paper and you can create your character individually with which you accomplish various adventures. Which ones are determined by the added stories. Furthermore, not only the creation of the character is an essential part, but also the character development. This includes a complex character management, which adapts to the experienced stories. Furthermore, the basic foundation or Echo itself is available in two languages: German and English. Depending on the installed stories, more or less stories are available depending on the selected language.

Complex character management - What does it all involve?

First of all, the typical leveling system we all know is omitted, which means that the player gains power by gaining experience, which is broken down into 6 different runes. These runes can be used by the player to improve his skills and attributes. If the player has increased his attributes accordingly, he also rises in level, but this can also be a danger, because the opponents do the same to him. This means that not only the character is important, but also his equipment to prepare for the opponents accordingly. For this purpose, about 500 pieces of equipment can be manufactured by yourself - as long as you meet the skill requirements. This equipment can be made by about 150 different items. But where do they come from? Once from the stories and from the player facilitation. But owning the equipment is not enough, you also have to learn how to use it and the more runes you spend on it, the more skills you unlock. But enough about the items at this point, because there is also something else than warriors - The magic classes. Magic works differently than the techniques of weapons, while the techniques allow to perform multiple attacks at once, the abilities of magic increase the maximum damage, but also away from the battle they have an advantage. They can open new paths with their magic without using items like torches. (When it is possible is shown at the bottom right of the window) But not only the techniques and magic interact with each other - above them there is a complex interaction of types. For example ice and fire or poison and acid and so on. No matter whether magic or technique is based on a type of attack and some opponents are immune to such a type (for example, ghosts against physical attacks, if they do not come from an ability) But by enchantments on the equipment this can be easily compensated.

What are these player facilitations?

The player facilitations facilitate (especially at the beginning, when there are only few stories) the receipt of raw materials and financial resources. The bottom line is now: 1x a day you get a random chest and some gold for the store under "Pick up reward". More resources can then be bought in the store itself, but this also changes daily. But there is another relief, a character you have created can take new paths, that is, you can start a new game with him without inventory (only starting equipment) but keeps all his skills and level. This can then become a challenge for veterans.
